FAQ’S
Have questions about RFID protection, how ScanGuard sleeves work, or which option is right for you? Our FAQs cover the most common questions about everyday card protection, passport safety, travel use, shipping, and more, so you can shop with confidence.
1. What does RFID blocking mean?
RFID blocking means the sleeve is designed to help block RFID and NFC signals, reducing the risk of unauthorised scanning of the chip in your card, passport or other compatible item. ScanGuard’s sleeves are intended for debit cards, credit cards, hotel swipe keys, passports, driver’s licences and access cards.
3. Do I need this for passports too?
If your passport contains an RFID chip, a blocking sleeve can add an extra layer of protection while travelling. ScanGuard sells passport sleeves specifically for that purpose.
5. How long does shipping take?
Orders are dispatched as quickly as possible. We use Australia Post exclusively for our deliveries so times can vary depending upon your location. Please allow up to 7 days for delivery, more for remote areas.
7. Do the sleeves block tap-and-go payments?
Yes — when the card is inside the sleeve, the blocking material is designed to interfere with the signal, so contactless payments should not work until the card is removed.
9. What is the difference between top-opening and side-opening sleeves?
The main difference is how you insert and remove the card. Some customers simply prefer one style over the other, while others like a mix depending on how they store their cards.
11. If someone takes money from my bank account, will the bank get it back for me?
Sometimes, but not always. In Australia, outcomes depend on whether the transaction was unauthorised, whether it was a mistaken internet payment, or whether the customer was tricked into making the payment themselves. Customers should contact their bank immediately, because fast reporting gives the best chance of stopping or recovering funds.
13. Are the sleeves durable?
Yes — they are designed for everyday handling and travel use.
15. Do I need protection for hotel keys and access cards too?
If they use RFID/NFC technology, they may also benefit from a blocking sleeve. ScanGuard specifically lists hotel swipe keys and access cards among the items its sleeves are intended to protect.
2. Which items fit in the sleeves?
ScanGuard sleeves are designed for common RFID-enabled items such as credit cards, debit cards, passports, hotel swipe keys, driver’s licences and access cards.
4. Can I use the card while it is inside the sleeve?
No — for tap-and-go or scanning functions to work, you would generally remove the card from the sleeve first.
6. Will the sleeves fit in my wallet or purse?
Yes — the sleeves are slim and lightweight, so they are designed to fit easily into most wallets, purses and travel wallets.
8. Are these sleeves only for travellers?
No — they are useful for both everyday use and travel. Many people use them for daily card protection, while others choose passport sleeves and travel packs for added peace of mind when travelling.
10. If I get scammed, will my insurance cover it?
Not always. Insurance cover for scams varies a lot between policies and insurers. Some policies may offer limited help in certain situations, but many scam losses are not automatically covered, so customers should check their own policy wording and speak directly with their insurer. General insurance can cover theft or loss in some cases, but scam reimbursement is highly policy-specific.
12. Do RFID-blocking sleeves guarantee I can’t be scammed?
No. RFID-blocking sleeves are designed to help reduce the risk of unauthorised RFID/NFC scanning, but they are only one part of staying safe. Customers should still watch out for phishing, fake websites, suspicious calls, and other common scams.
14. Can I buy for multiple family members?
Yes — our multi-packs and travel packs are ideal for couples, families or anyone protecting several cards and passports.
16. What should I do if I think my identity has been stolen?
Contact your bank or financial institution immediately, change important passwords, and get support from IDCARE if needed. Moneysmart says acting quickly can help limit the damage.
